The Anti-Social Questionnaire

Q. What toppings make up the best burger?
A. Barbecue sauce, pepper jack, sauteed (or pickled) onions, and a red pepper relish, with a little mayo on the bun. Lettuce and tomato optional
Q. Favourite coping mechanism for touring NOT involving liquor or other intoxicating influences?
A. I’m partial to a good walk. And a sleep mask for sleeping weird places
Q. If you could be any animal in the world, which would you be, and why?
A. I’d be a cat. Sleep all day and rule the house.
Q. Most unusual piece of merch you’ve seen/bought/produced?
A. I saw someone with hot sauce a while back, which was rad. My friend I Ya Toyah made lipsticks too, which was awesome. My merch goal is to have a custom beer someday – I love a good craft beer.
Q. What lyric has had the most profound influence on your life?
A. “Naturally I’m worried if I do it alone/who really cares cause it’s your life, you never know it could be great/life is short, you’re capable” from What You Waiting For by Gwen Stefani
Q. The internet: Best thing to happen to music in the last 25 year, or the worst?
A. Both, I think. Good news: anyone can make music and put it out everywhere. Bad news: same thing. It makes it easy to reach people but hard to stand out.
Q. If you weren’t in music, what career would you have instead?
A. If I had followed my childhood career path, I’d be a lawyer. That said, I haven’t totally made it out of IT yet! I just work from home (or “home”) a lot.
Q. What cartoon characters would you be?
A. Good question! Are we thinking Saturday morning cartoons or a bit broader? Cause if it’s Saturday morning cartoons I am probably stuck with a Spongebob Squarepants character. That said, I identify a lot with Motoko Kusanagi – which probably shouldn’t surprise anyone. Or a less ill-fated Misa Amane.
Q. What era of music or musical movement influences you the most currently?
A. Is cyberpunk a movement yet? Because a lot of my latest demos are pulling from that reference pool. I’ve also been going back to metalcore references a lot lately for the blend between electronics and heavier elements.
Q. What is the best restaurant in your hometown and what would you recommend to order from there?
A. Pizza Spacca Napoli in Port Moody – I get the Piccante pizza but the eggplant parm is also spectacular
Q. Favourite takeout/restaurant on the road?
A. I’m super basic and gonna pick Subway, cause hey. Vegetables.
Q. Favourite pro wrestling move?
A. The Razor’s Edge – that is Razor Ramon’s signature move, right? I haven’t watched pro wrestling but I have a friend who channels him to the point we all identify him with Razor. So that’s my pick.
Q. Diamond Dogs or Alladin Sane?
A. I actually have no idea what either of these are!
Q. Do you consider moshing and crowd surfing more intrusive and offensive than fans filming with a phone for most of the show?
A. Everyone experiences the live energy differently – so long as you’re being mindful of others I don’t care how you express it!
Q. What music video blew your mind the first time you saw it?
A. I’m going to cheat a little here – I had a bootleg of Gackt’s (Christmas 2004, I think?) Diabolos show at the Tokyo dome. I was a teenage weeb fangirl of course, but the sheer over-the-top drama of the show (dude and his band rode in on fucking horses at full gallop) and their commitment and dedication to it has stuck with me for years.
Q. If you mainly do vocal tunes, what instrumental song would you cover?
A. That’s easy – I would cover “Suicide Mission” from the Mass Effect 2 soundtrack. Those soundtracks were a huge influence on my early work and I’d love to revisit that
Q. Who is your greatest role model, and why?
A. My mom. She is the queen of achieving her goals and being kind while taking no shit. She’s pretty great.
Q. Favourite film, TV or video game score (you can only pick one)?
A. Mass Effect. If we’re drilling down, I might pick ME2 specifically but they’re all amazing.
Q. What song is an immediate skip to you, and why?
A. You know that “you’re my obsession” song from the 80s? That one. Fuck that one. I had a terrible ex who played it. My only DJ request in the last few years was “please don’t play that song”. He didn’t! It was great
Q. What song from any (other) artist would you pick to be your theme song?
A. It changes every few months, but right now I would pick Donatella by Lady Gaga.
