The Anti-Social Questionnaire
Interviewed: Brent Silva
Band name: NLP
Q What toppings make the best burger?
A Homemade with chopped mushrooms, onions, garlic, spices, etc. mixed into medium ground beef, cook on bbq, sweet bun slightly toasted, plowman’s toppings w cheese.
Q Favourite coping mechanism for touring NOT involving liquor or other intoxicating influences?
A During tour – sunglasses, bbq. Not touring – I like to play guitar in the dark, pitch black.
Q If you could be any animal in the world, which would you be, and why?
A Hmm, would be pretty cool to be one of those wild chickens that wander Maui screaming, “fuck a all a youuuu”. (they scream cockadoodledoo, everywhere, non stop)
Q Most unusual piece of merch you’ve seen/bought/produced?
A Probably the dick castings…
Q What lyric has had the most profound influence on your life?
A Jerry Reed Guitar man, or Johnny B Goode (Hendrix Version)
Q The internet: Best thing to happen to music in the last 25 year, or the worst?
A The home computer is undoubtedly the best and worst. Best because everyone can now make music. Worst because its just another career you need to learn to be a musican now a days, add to that, graphic designer, pr, marketing, video editor, animator, producer, engineer, mix engineer, master engineer, social media, etc.
Q If you weren’t in music, what career would you have instead?
A If I didnt make metal, I’d probably still be making metal, I’m a welder! (google search song “I’m a welder”)
Q What cartoon characters would you be?
A Hmmm, besides Superman… I like the Batman tech, but hes not exactly a super hero, hes just a dude with gear. Maybe the Sandman, I guess that would go with the band NLP theme wise.
Q What era of music or musical movement influences you the most currently?
A We all like classical music, Holst, etc, classic rock, summer rock, prog rock, doom, heavy rock. In addition to that, I personally dig 90’s jungle, drum and bass, 80s hip hop, motown, old country Hank Williams to Chet Atkins, 80s Thrash, Spanish guitar music, Flamenco.
Q What is the best restaurant in your hometown and what would you recommend to order from there?
A Any bbq or a good sandwich shop.
Q Favourite pro wrestling move?
A None other than the DDT
Q Diamond Dogs or Alladin Sane?
A My fav bowie song is Ziggy Stardust, due to its relation to Johnny B Goode and other guitar songs, “Ziggy played guitar…” with all his screwed down hairdos and such, but maybe its my favorite Bowie lyrics not necessarily song. I’d go with Diamond Dogs over Alladin Sane probably.
Q Do you consider moshing and crowd surfing more intrusive and offensive than fans filming with a phone for most of the show?
A Nah I dont care, do both. Do both at the same time. Bring two phones and mosh upside down, IDGAF but dont spill anything on my pedal board.
Q What music or video blew your mind the first time you saw it?
A Probably Beach Boys Good Vibrations, when I was about 5. It’s a creepy song, especially the cello part. Music video-Thriller of course, I think it was 14AA when it came out, I was pretty young.
Q If you mainly do vocal tunes, what instrumental song would you cover?
A We like to play instrumental songs. It gives Rachel a chance to rest or something. “Rat Salad” by Sabbath is a good one.
Q Who is your greatest role model, and why?
A Wayne Gretzkey because he’s the man and no one comes close. Close 2nd might be Jesus or Satan, depends on the day.
Q Favourite film, TV or video game score (you can only pick one)?
A Hmmm, tough one, hard not to pick Super Mario Bros.
Q What song is an immediate skip to you, and why?
A I don’t really skip to songs, however, I’ll skip over Black Sabbath’s “Changes” any day, that and FX. Actually, if Jerry Reed is on the list I’ll skip to Guitar Man or The Bird.
Q What song from any (other) artist would you pick to be your theme song?
A Our Theme song is O Fortuna and Baker Street.
Please provide a YouTube link for a video that is not your own; ummm, not sure, how about Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver.
