The Anti-Social Questionnaire
Interviewed: Matt Hart
Q. What toppings make up the best burger?
A. Bacon & cheese always!! Maybe avocado too, I don’t do “sauces”.
Q. Favourite coping mechanism for touring NOT involving liquor or other intoxicating influences?
A. Peace and quiet space – finding some tranquil atmosphere to gather thoughts and think/reflect about what’s needed from me VS the party environment is important.
Q. If you could be any animal in the world, which would you be, and why?
A. Eagle, love the idea of soaring above the world.
Q. The internet: Best thing to happen to music in the last 25 year, or the worst?
A. Best thing for sure! It’s connected people like we could never have imagined. Though do appreciate it’s also created a form of de-humanisation too. We all just need to strive to strike a balance.
Q. If you weren’t in music, what career would you have instead?
A. … Hmm hard one as my day job is music too, but, I’d probably go with teaching or welfare/therapy as personal interest and within my music career have touched upon these aspects. Failing that, sports — am an avid climber, skier and scuba diving so an instructor of sorts would suit me well.
Q. What cartoon characters would you be?
A. BuzzLightyear! Just look at my photo – it’s obvious :-).
Q. What era of music or musical movement influences you the most currently?
A. It’s always industrial – metal and bass (midtempo at the moment). The grit of this sound of music fits to my vision and so is heavily incorporated into my own production.
Q. What is the best restaurant in your hometown and what would you recommend to order from there?
A. Don’t really have a best/favourite, I like sampling a lot of different places! If I really had to choose, though I don’t go often I really enjoy teppanyaki so I’d say Benihana.
Q. Favourite takeout/restaurant on the road?
A. Burger King, bacon double cheeseburger, of course! Though I do try to be more healthy than that!
Q. Favourite pro wrestling move?
A. No idea!
Q. Diamond Dogs or Alladin Sane?
A. Who?
Q. Do you consider moshing and crowd surfing more intrusive and offensive than fans filming with a phone for most of the show?
A. Moshing and crowd surfing are a way of life for gigs (within the genre I’m in at least)! Phone screens are disruptive to others in the audience…. I’m more about “be IN the moment”.
Q. What music video blew your mind the first time you saw it?
A. I loved the NIN, David Bowie – Afraid of Americans video!
Q. If you mainly do vocal tunes, what instrumental song would you cover?
A. Stravinsky – Rite of Spring! That’s a nod to my day job, classically trained viola 🙂
Q. Who is your greatest role model, and why?
A. Not sure I really have one? For my music project, I have mega thanks to Joss from Grendel, who gave me some powerful advice/encouragement about releasing my music, back in 2016…. “Anthology of Corrosion” resulted (released 30/01/2017). Haven’t turned back since, and moving strength to strength.
Q. Favourite film, TV or video game score (you can only pick one)?
A. Gladiator.
Q. What song is an immediate skip to you, and why?
A. Anything on the charts/popular. Not that I’m listening to that anyways, more if I’m surfing the radio while driving, it’s a pass when it auto tunes into mainstream radio.
Q. What song from any (other) artist would you pick to be your theme song?
A. 100% – BFG Division by Mick Gordon!
