One foot slowly lifts from the thick mud and steps forward. Again you trudge through the muck that is life. The cold winter air nips angrily at your rosy cheeks. Step after step you look ahead eagerly praying that you are one step closer to your destination. Your chest lifts up and down from your quickened breath; your tired muscles ache with every moment. You press on harder and further knowing that somewhere in that distance is where you need to be. All that you are, now clings to that passionate hope of arrival, step by step you persist.
Your lips quiver against the bitter flakes of snow. Each snow white flake falls to the ground – a beautiful maze of pure unique identity. What once was so beautiful to admire is another force moving adjacent to your determination. You lose track of all that is, all that has been and should be. Your eyes peer forward clinging to that miniscule light that you so need to find ahead.
The sky above twinkles with a million little plasma balls of light forced together by the strength of gravity. Those stars look down at you watching and admiring your perseverance and through all odds, bitterly rush towards you. Oh how mankind is a beautifully cruel idea.
Something awakens from within you, causing your eyes to lose focus of that one goal ahead. Your weary and drained eyes finally open wide to admire a world you never expected. All these years you trudged to get to where you are, but you never really looked at the vast array of splendor. Such magnificence can radiate from such a small idea. A tiny hand gripping instinctively at yours, the sound of waves crashing brutally against a stone wall, or that little smile another gave you as they walked past. You missed so much that you will never gain back because of your closed eyes.
Open up and breathe in the air that is life. Inhale with all you have, and hold onto each second as if it were your last. Enjoy the path less traveled; you will reach your destination. I promise you.
