Corpse Paint the World: is a life/deathstyle brand is created by two female artists; one based in “The Woods”, Ontario and the other in “Seaside Shanty”, Nova Scotia. What started as a collaborative art exchange between the two at the beginning of the 2020 pandemic has now grown into a monthly Zine, a variety of alchemy, and an apparel line. In order to create this Q&A, the duo each held an Ouija board in their respective haunted houses. The spirit of Sylvia Plath spoketh to them, asking questions via the board & planchette. Below are creators’ answers to Sylvia’s questions…

Creator One:
Q: What is CPTW?
A: Corpse Paint the World is a neo-burlesque zine published monthly. We make dark satire out of our observations and experiences in the modern world that are informed by our upbringing in 80’s, 90’s, and early 00 subcultures.
Q: Why a zine format?
A: Because it feels so good to hold something other than a phone. We aim to engage with our readers in a tangible way.
Q: How do we steer away from traditional and contemporary media?
A: We fucking hate technology. Its cumbersome and it hardly works. It’s actually been a humongous challenge having to create and maintain an online presence in social media. However, begrudgingly it has so far been the best way of getting our zine into the right hands.
Q: What are the benefits of submission to CPTW?
A: We worship our subscribers and supporters. We give away random gifts of appreciation and promote any endeavour our corpsie club is participating in. Which also helps to reach out to an audience across Canada and overseas.
Q: What is CPTW’s personality?
A: We are intense. Fearless yet terrified, ugly but a feast for the eyes. We are well read, have a great taste in music and an even more incredible community of fiends, friends and allies.
Q: What else do we offer and why?
A: Nostalgia. If you are from our era or wish you were check us the fuck out. We’ve got it all including a great perspective on what has happened to stars of our generation in the throws of the modern age.
Creator Two:
Q: What is Corpse Paint the World ?
A: Corpse Paint the World is two vaginal adorned demons dressed in sheep’s clothing that have been cursed with the awareness of existential crisis, haunted daily by traumas of the past, and plagued by the monotony of “hot girl summer” every time we open new tab. So instead, here is tangible art made with our feels and blood.
Q: Why is it in a Zine format?
A: Due to OLD-ism, we chose to work with pen, paper, ink, paint, glue, pencil and recycled materials to create something familiar yet different / weird. Because our MAC’s no longer do a software update, here you have something that comes to your mailbox whenever it shows up and you can just live in that moment for a hot minute.
Q: How does the CPTW steer away from traditional or conventional media?
A: There is so much smoke and mirrors in media we have no idea who’s shit we’re reading and sometimes we’re too fucking bored to find out. Everything is supes digital. Instead, we’re bringing a form of art and interest, homemade clickbait directly to your door. If you feel the shit were putting out there, then get yourself a subscription or some merch.
Q: What’s the benefit of subscribing to the zine?
A: Whats NOT the benefit? You get weird personal traumas and dramas, scary stories, obscure references, original artworks, weird unnecessary/necessary information, tales of true crime, gross hand drawn depictions, and dark sorcery every month. And it’s all completely haunted. I don’t understand the question.
Q: Does CPTW have a personality and if so, what’s it like?
A: Hmm…imagine a woman who has children but in the daytime she hides behind her curtains watching her kids play with others…but she’s holding a knife. The knife is not intended for her kids, it brings her brings her comfort. She has a secret room in the basement no one has ever been in. She doesn’t talk over supper. She loves her family dearly but she doesn’t know how to show it. So she just bakes a new cake everyday for dessert…but she also hides a wishbone in the cake and who ever finds it gets to make the wish! I guess that’s the personality we’re going for.
Q: What are other things CPTW has to offer?
A: We have an apparel line adorned with our taliswoman “Saint Kvlt”. She is a powerful and sacred entity similar to that of the “evil eye” symbol. Each shirt is threaded with a piece of her hair to ensure safety and “stay away from me” vibes whilst wearing her. She comes on a variety if items: shirts, pins, bathing products etc. We want to offer a line of something weird, charged with feminine energy and darkness because that’s been walked on for long enough. It’s out there, it’s the anti-matter and we want to let ‘em know.
Excellent interview with some awesome ladies, ordered a couple publications for myself off Etsy 😉
