‘Tell it like it is’ is a collection of (often) angry op-ed letters from various sources, some real and some highly questionable. But they amused us, so we posted them.
An Open Letter to Doug Ford
I refuse to listen to the rhetoric of people that say you have waffled or dropped the ball through the Covid-19 pandemic or those that say you should never have been a candidate for Premier in the first place due to your “alleged” history selling drugs.
No one is perfect and no one would have done a better job than you have dealing under such circumstances. I mean, as you have pointed out repeatedly, you do not have control of federal restrictions, the things that would have really made a difference like stopping international flights or stricter border enforcements. Those faults lay solely on the Prime Minister!
Let’s be honest, you only have control over things like shopping (closing big box stores that were non-essential) and schools. And even then, what were you supposed to do about schools that stayed open even though technically they are non-essential (like hair style colleges)? Were you supposed to use up limited bylaw services to ensure people were following the rules?! The nerve of these people to suggest you were looking out for your wealthy business minded friends and not the people, like when you decided you wanted to allow the opening of the Greenbelt so your developer associates can get rich by developing on that protected land. And how dare they imply that your family history of nepotism is any reflection on your choices?! These people are just jealous; wishing they were worthy enough to swim in your heartfelt river of tears!
It’s not like you haven’t earned your place in government by hard work and years of service to the people! I mean, you gave us ‘buck a beer’, dammit! You are a legend! And look at how amazingly smooth the vaccine roll-out has been here in Ontario, the numbers speak for themselves! I’ve never felt safer. And the amazing treatment of essential workers tops every other Country. Kudos for giving them back some of those paid sick days that you had taken away.
You, sir, keep doing the great job you are doing and saving the lives of Ontarians by continuing to assess the situation and keep imposing your effective and very stringent lock-downs that make total sense, and know that some us believed you when you said you hadn’t implied that police should be stopping and fining people without cause, of course you would not have implied something so illegal and in violation of basic human rights! The nerve of those people to even suggest such a thing!
